| Betty
Winn is the choral director and lead singer of Betty Winn and One A-Chord.
This gospel group makes regular appearances at conventions and theaters
in the New Orleans area. One A-Chord was founded in 1995 by Betty Winn and
her husband, Thomas. The group began as a female vocal ensemble. The most
frequently used configuration is still 6-10 vocals and a small band. In
addition to the small ensemble, One A-Chord now has a performance choir
with male and female voices. The participants of this dynamic choir come
from various churches and represent the finest gospel artists in New Orleans.
The performance choir can have as many as 40 vocals with organ/piano, lead
guitar, bass guitar, and drum accompaniment. The size of the performance
group changes according to circumstance.
Betty Winn and One A-Chord bring an exciting display of soul-stirring traditional and modern gospel. They take each audience on an unforgettable journey through the history of gospel, from the spirituals of African American slaves to the present day sound of Sunday morning services. They also revisit Negro spirituals sung on plantations, and pay a respectable tribute to Thomas Dorsey, the father of modern gospel. One A-Chord is most noted for small group vocalizations with tight three-part harmony. The popular group has been a favorite concert choice in New Orleans and abroad since it’s inception in 1995. One A-Chord has performed more than 50 concerts in northern Spain. They have also toured Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and several Caribbean Islands. In 2002 Betty Winn and One A-Chord received the “Big Easy Award” for the Best Gospel Group”. Their latest recording, ‘Shout Hallelujah’, was awarded Offbeat Magazine’s “2001 Best of the Beat Award” for the “Best Gospel Album by a Louisiana Artist”. One A-Chord demonstrates many dimensions in Betty Winn’s music. The versatility of choir and small ensemble gives Ms. Winn the flexibility to explore a variety of harmonies both traditional and modern. The addition of male voices and a band gives the chorale a performance presence that must be experienced to be believed. This is an uplifting and energetic choir where the best of New Orleans gospel artists have been chosen to share the spiritual music of New Orleans at conventions, churches, concerts, and festivals around the world.
Fulfill
ye my joy, that ye may be likeminded, having the same love, being of one
